Artist’s Statement: For this project, I
researched the core values of Urban Outfitters as well as the environmental impact of shopping bags. To be timely and preserve the lifestyle of the target market, ages 19-25, Urban Outfitters should reconsider the use of disposable shopping bags in its retail stores. The obvious solution is to eliminate all disposable bags and to create an Urban Outfitters reusable bag. However, if the reusable bags were not reused and were instead thrown away, they could potentially have an even greater environmental impact. Urban Outfitters should charge a small fee for the bags. The bags would, then, be seen as having some value and would be less likely to end up in the trash.


Materials: recycled billboard vinyl, grommets, bungee cord
The use of recycled billboard vinyl would decrease the company’s environmental footprint and costs, as Billboards are its main advertising outlet. It’s also durable and waterproof for everyday urban use.
